Police investigate fatal snowmobile crash at Cross Creek Station Print E-mail

Police are investigating a fatal snowmobile collision that occurred Saturday evening.

District 2 RCMP said the incident happened when a snowmobile travelling north on Cross Creek Road in Nashwaak Bridge collided head-on with a southbound vehicle.

The collision took place at about 7 p.m. Saturday.

The male victim, who hasn't been identified, was confirmed deceased at the scene, said the RCMP in a news release.

The lone male occupant of the vehicle wasn't injured.

The RCMP and the coroner are still investigating.

Local Jim Pinnock Wins Skills Competiton for Curling Print E-mail

It was the Jack MacNaughton rink from Capital Winter Club being declared the winner of the Scott Harvey Memorial Bonspsiel involving 20 rinks at Fredericton Curling Club recently.

Making up the MacNaughton were Dino Gatto, Phil Doherty and Dave Hall. Tied for second were the Brittney Jeans rink from Gage/FCC including Leah Thompson, Shelby Wilson and Christa Corbin and the Tom Cameron rink out of Halifax. Bob Morton of FCC was voted top sportsman of the spiel. Jim Pinnock of Stanley won the skills competition.

The annual FCC Curl for Cancer is slated Saturday. The Masters bonspiel goes from Jan. 31-Feb. 3 at FCC.

Lady Lions prevail against Blue Devils

Grace Loten had 12 points leading Leo Hayes High junior varsity Lady Lions over the Stanley Blue Devils 76-57 in exhibition girls high school basketball action Monday night. Katie Stewart added 10 points for the Lions with Emma Corey adding nine. Alison Bartlett had 19 points for Stanley, a AA school. Shannon MacFarlane contributed 15 points to the Devils' attack.

Blue Devils romp over Eagles in hoops

Suzanne MacKinnon had 21 points and Bailey Northrup and Bethany Goodine each added eight leading Stanley Blue Devils over Devon Park Christian School Eagles 50-26 in district 18 Hatheway & Instrum middle school tier II girls basketball action Monday.

Leading the Devon Park attack was Hope Guptil with 10 points while Sarah Kierstead added eight. Stanley led 28-12 at the half.
